This is the 8th book I’ve read in the D.I. Kim Stone series, and like the seven before it, it was a suspenseful, roller coaster of a mystery. Angela Marsons is an expert at keeping her readers on their toes!
In this one, the author continues to explore the group dynamic among the detectives while delving into the dark side of elite school groups and hazing. I hate giving spoilers, but I will say that this book changes the group forever.
My biggest concern is that Marsons book deal was for 8 books – please let there be more! This is the only series I’ve encountered over the last few years that has me completely hooked; there are a few others I keep up with, but more out of curiosity than need. This series is an addiction as much as a guilty pleasure. 5 stars!
Another fantastic installment in the D.I. Kim Stone series! After reading the previous 6 books, it wasn’t a surprise, but it’s always a bit of a relief when an awesome author continues to deliver.
In this book, the author continues to develop and expand the boundaries of the team of characters while simultaneously weaving an intricate web of mystery. The reader delves deeper into D.I. Kim Stone’s past and feels a bit more of her pain (both past and present) as she is dealt yet another shocking blow.
As always, I find myself anxiously awaiting the next book in the series. More, please! 5 stars!
There’s nothing like a D.I. Kim Stone thriller to get me out of a reading slump! I didn’t like this one quite as much as the others in the series, the author shook the characters up a bit and took them out of their comfort zone, which changed the dynamics in a way I didn’t quite like, but I still sped through this so quickly that my fingertips feel blistered and my Kindle screen is getting a worn spot!
Love the characters, the mystery, the action, and the way all the pieces always fit together so perfectly in the end! 5 stars!
This is another exciting installment in the D.I Kim Stone series. As usual, Marsons leads the reader around a series of twists and turns, makes the outlandish seem probable, and pushes the boundaries in a most enjoyable way.
In book four, D.I. Kim Stone’s character continues to evolve. As her persona is fleshed out, it endears her to readers even more. The mystery, as usual, has an element that strikes close to home for Detective Stone, and the time on the clock is ticking down fast.
I love these books. A series that got under my skin after I swore off series, I can’t stop myself from coming back for more. This author is fresh and inventive, balances the light with the dark through the development and healing of her characters, and is a true artist when it comes to weaving together the many fibers of an intricate storyline to create a perfect tapestry of crime. 5 stars!
This is the fifth installment in Marsons’ D.I. Kim Stone series, and so far I only have one problem – now I’m caught up with the series and have to wait for the sixth to be released. Quickly, Ms. Marsons!!! Write fast!!!
I can always count on this author to deliver a dark, seedy mystery full of thrills and chills! I can’t get enough! There’s always a series of clever twists. There’s never any unfair play, either – the clues are there, deftly woven into the framework of the story, you just have to read closely enough to catch them.
The development of the characters throughout the series is wonderful And the angst! I love spending time with D.I. Kim Stone, and can’t wait for the next installment. 5 stars!
This is the third installment of Angela Marsons’ D.I. Kim Stone novels, and it has quickly become my new favorite series – just when I wasn’t looking for a series to be caught up in. In fact, I was actively struggling against an addiction to the series, but Marsons’ books provide such a strong fix that I can’t put them down.
This is a fast paced, gritty novel that pushes the boundaries of nightmare land. I did guess the identity of the nameless bad guy, but I had no idea how the events of the book would progress or what the outcome would be. (Note to self – don’t pick up the next book in this series if you have other things you need to get done.)
Five stars and a break to catch my breath!
I enjoyed Silent Screams, the first book in the D.I. Kim Stone series by Angela Marsons quite a bit, but not enough to make me a die hard fan waiting for the next in the series. Then, I kept seeing a book (Goodreads, WordPress, Amazon) with a plot that sounded like an awesome must read story, which just so happened to be the third in this series. I didn’t see the sense in skipping a book, and I found a copy of this one (but not the third 😦 ), so I gave it a try.
Marsons is a talented author with one foot planted deep in the dark side of life. She’s not Mo Hayder dark, but she doesn’t write cozies, either. This installment of the series further develops the character of D.I. Kim Stone, making her more realistic and likable. It also delves deeper into the darkness and shadowy criminal psyche that Marsons seems to understand so well. Can’t wait to find book 3 in this that is quickly becoming addictive! 5 stars.
I added this book to my to-read list after seeing several positive reviews from friends on Goodreads. Yes, I’m one of those people who
stalks hangs out on Goodreads checking out what other people are reading and recommending. If you want to be one of those people, add me! I’m (mostly) friendly. You can find me here.
Anyways, I added this books thanks to my Goodreads friends, and that’s why I recognized it when I saw it in the used book bin at my local bookstore. Silent Scream is yet another debut book by a British author, (what can I say, I think I’m hooked), and is the first installment of an intended series featuring D.I. Kim Stone.
I had a hard time in the beginning. I think I was five pages in when I logged in to Goodreads to double check that this was a recommended book with good rating and reviews. (Yes, if we’re friends, I’ll trust you that much!) And it was. So I kept reading. I’m very glad I did.
D.I. Kim Stone is a very likable character (seems like it’s been forever since I encountered one of those). The plot was well paced and planned, with a nice bonus at the end. And whatever it was that bothered me in the beginning dropped away at some point, leaving me quite happily immersed in the story.
Will you like it? As far as British mystery thrillers go, this is a nice mid-range option; not too cozy, but not as brutal as Mo Hayder. Disturbing, but not in too much detail. It may have the sniffles, but it’s not completely sick. Think early Patricia Cornwell – a nice, meaty murder mystery. Five stars.
